You have mail !

That is what Mr P cried as I came through the front door this evening.

And, lookie here - he's only flippin hit the nail on the head !

A parcel pour moi
So, at this point I was very excited ! I love surprises ! And what a lovely surprise this was   :-)

I carefully opened to see what was inside.....

Its like a gift in a bed !

Escaped !

Exceptionally prettily wrapped.

At this point even I could guess at the fact it was book shaped !   ;-)) So I knew that this was the gift I won over at http://didyoumakethat.wordpress.com/.

I like to savour the unwrapping of a mystery gift - its very satisfying to prolong the excitement (and let me tell you - a girl in rural Devon takes excitement where she can !)

2 gifts in one !
I cant believe Karen was thoughtful enough to include a bookmark ! Class, no ?

This is my excruciatingly slow unwrapping......  (by Now Mr P's attention was wandering and he had moved onto other excitements - namely Battlefield - pink wrapping is obviously a girl thing).

1 step

2 steps

3 steps

4
Then I properly went for it !

What a beautifully cool book !
This pretty much sounds like the book was written FOR ME
Have a sneaky peek inside !

Extremely apt !

Err yes ! I recognise these actions rather too well !
Sooooo excited to start reading it ! I LOVE books on all different subjects and love to go to bed and have a good old read before I go to sleep (christ - I sound dull lol !)

How rock and roll is the pink tissue wrapping ?

Thank you sooo much Karen !!  I totally LOVE the book, and it was extremely generous of you to let me win it !

I am sure anyone who looks at my blog has already met Karen, but if you have not then you must pop over and say hello. Why not get yourself a vimto and take a look at some of the fabulous creations that she has made. She really is a very talented lady.

Thanks again Karen ! Big loves.

So my friends, that was my evening so far. How was yours ? Hopefully as exciting as mine !

In other news I am off work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (oh yes I am excited !) and am thinking of making a silk Jasmine.

Um, do you reckon its safe for a newbie to try and stitch silk pretty much straight of the bat ? I have read many horror stories but am sort of thinking 'ahhh just go ahead and try'  !

Any tips ?

Also, in case anyone needed reminding - its only nearly the flippin weekend !! What has everyone else got planned ?

Well, I shall bid a happy farewell, as I am off to check out what my new book says about getting men-folk to cook the tea !

Au revoir

Colette sewing book

Well readers - lookie here.

I found a new book for release by Colette patterns ! How excited ?

You can check it out here

Looks good non ? AND it comes with 5 patterns to make up.

I personally LOVE Colette patterns, and they are a dream to make because of the clear instructions. If the book is as good as the pattern instructions, Dolly and I will be happy ladies indeed !

Book club

Hey lovely people,

Here is another book that I have found very useful in my quest for sewing knowledge, which I want to share with you.

It is called 'The complete book of sewing shortcuts' and is by the legend, Claire B Shaeffer.

This book is brilliant ! I have 2 copies, both second hand. I bought the first one, didn't notice anything wrong, until I looked for the chapter on zippers. It was not in the book ! There was a whole section of pages missing. As such I had to buy a second copy - and you know what, I didn't mind. That's how much I love this book and I read them both from cover to cover when I received them.

You can buy a copy here: Link to amazon.co.uk

This book differs from the bible ' Fit for real people ' as it is not a fitting book. It is a book to help with techniques and short cuts to save time when sewing. There are excellent sections on sewing in zippers, for example. And how to deal with seams, interfacing's and sleeves, amongst others.

Helpfully there is also a section on 'gathering' which I why I picked up the book today. I forgot what a great book it is. I would definitely recommend.

Ciao

Book club

Hola beautiful people !

And its yet ANOTHER super gorgeous sunny day here in Devon. Its such a shock as it usually just chucks down here (didn't you ever wonder why Devon was so green and lush ?)

So, I am going to share a  booky wook with you all. Its my bible. I read great things about it, and then thought I need to get me a copy of that.

So I did, on Amazon, second hand for like a fiver. Best fiver I ever spent.

Here is a link - just in case you needed it !

Link to amazon UK.

I pretty much devoured the book in one sitting.

The book is called "Fit for real people".

So, the clothes are not to my own taste, but the technical know how ! WOW !  I must say I can't big this book up enough ! Readers (none as yet I know, but still) if you were ever thinking about getting this book. DO IT. You wont regret a thing, I promise !!

Ciao ciao
